FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY

When athletes stretch, they usually do so ineffectively, performing the same old-school stretching exercises that several generations of athletes and coaches have used. Now is your chance to get yourself the stretch of a life time!

Fascial Stretch Therapy is a unique system of therapy and training that dramatically improves your flexibility by lengthening your fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and invests all structures of the body. The problem is that fascia will thicken and shorten when any of your tissues are under stress from poor posture, lack of exercise, injury, surgery, disease or over-training.

For instance,
•47% of your flexibility is locked up in your joint capsule.
•42% of your flexibility potential is in your fascia.

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUES

What is Active Release Techniques®(ART) to Individuals, Athletes, and Patients?
ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

HOW DO OVERUSE CONDITIONS OCCUR?
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
•    acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
•    accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
•    not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

FUNCTIONAL AND KINETIC TREATMENT WITH REHAB

FAKTR (pronounced FACTOR) is actually a concept, not a technique. The acronym stands for Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab. Co-Developed by Dr. Tom Hyde, DC, DACBSP, FRCCSS (Hon), ICSSD, CKTP, CSTI, GT, ART, FAKTR, FICC, incorporates the latest research and evidence-based soft-tissue techniques into a comprehensive protocol to treat common disorders of the musculoskeletal system and complicated injuries quickly and easily.

The co-developers utilized their training in a variety of soft tissue techniques including instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) to develop a concept that included function and treatment of the kinetic chain while utilizing various forms of rehabilitation at the same time. This unique approach to treating in the position of provocation (pain, loss of range of motion, feeling of tightness within the fascia/soft tissues) and during motion; sets FAKTR-certified providers in a class all their own.  FAKTR incorporates all of the above variations to evaluate and treat soft tissue/fascial conditions. These concepts are easy to grasp, quick to apply and produce rapid results.

What conditions can FAKTR treat?
The list of conditions that can be treated with FAKTR protocols are too numerous to list here, but to name a few. FAKTR can treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions including tendinopathy, sprains, strains, entrapment syndromes, fascial restrictions such as plantar fasciitis, ITB syndrome, myofascial pain syndromes, adhesive capsulitis, shin splints and post-surgical recovery.

Who is the ideal patient for FAKTR?
While FAKTR is a great way to treat athletes quickly, the concept can be applied to all ages and all body types. FAKTR is excellent for those involved in auto accidents, work related injuries, sports injuries, post-surgical work including joint replacement and conditions of daily living.

DEEP TISSUE/SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers. The particulars of the sports massage technique are specific to the athlete's sport of choice. Focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements.

Aspects of sports massage therapy are gaining popularity as useful components in a balanced training regimen. Sports massage therapy can be used as a ;means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance.

One of the key benefits of Sports massage therapy compared to other modalities is its ability to target muscle-tendon junctions. A 2010 study in the journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that even a 30-second massage improved hip-flexor range of motion. Another study conducted by Margaret Jones, Ph.D. of the American College of Sports Medicine, demonstrated a notable trend toward decreased muscle soreness in the athletes who received massage either before or after exercise.

For anyone participating in regular physical activity, Sports massage therapy every week or two may be a great addition to your normal regimen. It's best to talk with one of our professional massage therapists to find a plan that will work best with your schedule, level of activity and budget.

CUPPING THERAPY

Cupping is thought to release tissues deep inside the body, relax tense muscles and ease stiffness associated with chronic back and neck pains, migraines, rheumatism, and fatigue. Some athletes have been known to use cupping therapy to naturally improve performance and reduce stiffness, muscle cramps, joint pain and scar tissue caused by injuries.

Cupping targets soft tissue by applying local pressure to pain points and areas of swelling. As blood flow increases within vessels and capillaries, tissues receive much-needed nutrients and oxygen.

Cupping can promote relaxation by allowing people to enter a more relaxed state since it sedates the central nervous system. This is like acupuncture, which you might assume hurts and is uncomfortable but seems to help lower stress responses and therefore offers protection against anxiety and depression.

Also, cupping is not for everyone or every muscle. Cupping is only one tool in our toolbox. It is important to know this is not an end all to any type of injury or limitation. This is an excellent tool to usually start muscles working optimally, but many more tools have to then be utilized in combination to get the full benefits.  Quite often, those that have cupping done to them will feel amazingly “free” when they complete their first session, but don’t quit with just cupping as your only therapy method.

DEEP TISSUE LASER THERAPY

Laser therapy is the non-invasive use of laser energy to generate a photochemical response in damaged or dysfunctional tissue. Laser therapy can alleviate pain, reduce inflammation and accelerate recovery from a wide range of acute and chronic clinical conditions. As rehabilitation specialists know, the main goal of treatment for many when treating painful, debilitating conditions is to facilitate improved function and mobility. Laser therapy is a drug-free, surgery-free technique to help make that goal a reality.

Cleared by the FDA in 2003, Class IV Laser laser therapy has become standard of care for many musculoskeletal injuries. Many clinicians are confidently incorporating laser therapy programs into their practices due to the growing body of literature supporting the efficacy of laser therapy as a modality to reduce inflammation and accelerate recovery. Laser therapy technology has been recently endorsed by professional organizations such as the APTA, WHO and IASP

“Clinicians should consider the use of low-level laser therapy to decrease pain and stiffness in patients with Achilles tendinopathy.”
– American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)

“Laser therapy is beneficial in treatment of neck pain.”
– World Health Organization (WHO)

“Laser therapy shows strong evidence of effectiveness for pain relief.”
– International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP)

HYPERBARIC THERAPY

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is the medical use of oxygen in a pressurized environment, at a level higher than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA). Increased pressure allows for oxygen to dissolve and saturate the blood plasma (independent of hemoglobin/red blood cells), which yields a broad variety of positive physiological, biochemical and cellular effects. This noninvasive therapy is the most trusted way to increase oxygen levels to all organs of the body. The typical treatment lasts for 60-90 minutes, during which the patient lies down and breathes normally.

HBOT has been demonstrated in several clinical studies to enhance the body’s innate ability to repair and regenerate. It is used as an adjunct therapy to complement and enhance the healing process in both chronic and acute conditions.
